Solar + Battery Storage · Metro Vancouver

Solar and battery storage that pays for itself — and keeps the lights on.

Raincoast Solar designs rebate‑maximized solar‑plus‑battery systems for Metro Vancouver homes and businesses. We unlock the incentives, model your roof in 3D, and hand off to our HPCN‑certified electrical partners for permitting and install — so you get a premium system, engineered for coastal BC.

How it works

Three moves from “curious” to powered.

No pushy in‑home sales visit. We do the engineering remotely, capture every incentive on your behalf, then bring in the trades to build it right.

Remote 3D CAD design

We model your actual roof in 3D — pitch, shading, and orientation — and size a system for self‑consumption, not grid export. You get a precise production estimate and a clean proposal, no sales rep on your couch.

Rebate & incentive engineering

We handle BC Hydro pre‑approval, Peak Saver enrollment, the PST exemption on qualifying equipment, and the interconnection paperwork — so you capture the maximum you’re eligible for, in the right order.

Certified installation

Your system is installed by our HPCN‑certified Red Seal electricians, who pull the TSBC electrical permit, complete the install, and manage BC Hydro interconnection and inspection.

Why battery storage is now essential in BC

The grid changed the math. A battery changes it back.

On July 1, 2026, BC Hydro closed legacy net metering to new customers. New systems now fall under Rate Schedule 2289, which buys your exported power at about 10¢/kWh — while you buy it back at a higher residential rate.

Exporting surplus to the grid no longer pays. So we design battery‑first, self‑consumption systems: store your own solar and use it yourself instead of selling it cheap. The battery is what protects your return — and it’s what keeps your home running when the grid goes down.

Coastal reality

Storm & outage resilience

Winter windstorms and atmospheric rivers take down power across the North Shore, the Fraser Valley, and the Sea‑to‑Sky corridor every year. Grid‑tied solar alone shuts off in an outage for safety. Paired with storage, your essentials keep running.

  • Fridge, heat pump, internet & lights through an outage
  • Automatic switchover — no generator, no fuel, no noise
  • Shave peak‑hour usage and support the grid via Peak Saver

The incentive stack

We don’t just sell panels. We engineer the paperwork.

Most of a solar system’s value is unlocked before a single panel goes up — in getting the incentives right, in the right sequence. That’s the part we obsess over.

$5k

BC Hydro solar rebate

$1,000 per kW installed, up to $5,000 residential (up to $10,000 for eligible businesses), capped at 50% of cost.

$5k

BC Hydro battery rebate

$500 per kWh, up to $5,000 residential — with Peak Saver enrollment (up to $1,500 without). Battery must pair with solar.

7%

PST exemption

Qualifying solar PV equipment — panels, wiring, inverters — is exempt from BC’s 7% PST (Bulletin PST 203). Batteries are taxable.

30%

Federal Clean Tech ITC

For businesses (taxable Canadian corporations): a 30% investment tax credit, plus 100% first‑year write‑off on eligible clean‑energy equipment.

Before vs. after

What a rebate‑backed system does to a BC Hydro bill.

The whole point is a lower, more predictable bill — and an asset that adds value to your property. Here’s an illustrative modeled scenario.

Illustrative — modeled scenario
Before · typical monthly bill$240
After · solar + battery, self‑consumption$40–$80

Illustrative figures for a sample Metro Vancouver home, assuming ~85% offset and blended BC Hydro residential rates. Not a quote or a guarantee. Your results depend on roof, usage, system size, and rates. Real project results and testimonials will be published here with customer consent.

Proof, not promises

Your project could be our next case study.

As we complete installs across Vancouver, the North Shore, Burnaby, Richmond, Surrey, and White Rock, we’ll publish real before‑and‑after bills, system specs, and homeowner stories here — with permission, and with the assumptions shown.

Total independence

Built for where the grid isn’t

  • Cabins, islands & acreage — Sea‑to‑Sky, Sunshine Coast, Gulf Islands
  • Solar + battery + smart generator backup, sized for winter
  • No monthly utility bill — ever
  • PST‑exempt solar equipment (Bulletin PST 203)

Off‑grid & remote power

No power line? Or don’t want one?

For remote coastal BC properties where the grid is unreliable, unavailable, or brutally expensive to extend, we design fully autonomous solar‑plus‑storage systems that run your property year‑round.

Off‑grid means no BC Hydro account — so grid rebates and Rate Schedule 2289 don’t apply. Instead, you trade incentives for something bigger: complete energy independence and zero utility bills, with PST‑exempt solar equipment and generator backup engineered for our wet, dark winters.

Limited‑window incentives

Lock in today’s rebates before the programs change again.

BC’s incentive landscape moves fast — net metering already closed, and the federal Greener Homes grant and loan are gone. The rebates on the table today are real, funded on a limited basis, and worth capturing now. Start with a free 3D design.
